Derelict
The
The website has been down for half a year, due to a web host configuration issues
that I never decided to fix until today. Don't make the mistake of thinking that
I find myself any less negligent these days...I am as much so as ever! The image
sums up where I find myself at present--a bit of a mess.
Actually, I was kinda shitty for a bit. The fall was a bad time. I stopped exercising, and my mood suffered as it usually does when I am inactive. I was just drifting along and not taking care of myself. About mid-winter I picked things up with some routine--started playing chess, working out, taking taekwando, playing broomball, my housemate situation improved, and now that the weather is taking a nice turn things seem good.
I have a new laptop, and with a fresh install of Ubuntu linux...I can pick up the web stuff again. Oh joy!
Training For Tanglefoot
The
Tanglefoot Trail Run is one week away on June 17th. For those crazies
that entered in the 10-Mile run, myself included, we have the pleasure
of running two up and down laps. Lets hope it doesn't get wet! I tested
my endurance on a long run yesterday, and hope to do some hill training
to prepare.
A weekend or two ago I went to the Ithaca Festival for some music and stuff. There was a pretty hot Ukulele that followed me home. It is great fun. I put a strap on it yesterday so I can walk around and play "Careless Love", a pre-blues bluesy song, and "All The Pretty Little Horses", a lullebye that is kinda nice. I went to the store and got books to learn the Ukulele, harmonica, and recorder so I can become a one man show (who doesn't perform).
After more than 3 months at work, things are more are more familiar, though hardly routine. The software requirements/management process has come full circle, and I will follow what I have already done for future projects. The system I currently develop has more project management tasks now that the requirements are defined and there are reports to give. Testing and making change requests is a new phase, which promises new challenges and new eyes on the project--a welcome thing.
There's no hurry to finish the two books on my to-read list that I have been reading concurrently. Nassim Nicholas Taleb's book, "The Black Swan", has been very interesting, and Buckminster Fuller's "The Critical Path", has been just as laborious as anticipated. Both are thought provoking and worthwhile.
The only thing bad about going to school for free, if you like going to school, is that you have to decide where to go and what to do.
Superhuman?
I never considered the possibility of being superhuman, but after tonight's
run, I am going to check for spaceships hidden in the back yard.
After an entirely-too-long 10+ hour day, I ran an entirely too long 10+ mile jog. The way down was dusk, I circled Eldrige park at twilight. The way back was night running, which was fine with me -- its peaceful, the air is cool and a bit damp, and time just kinda flows by.
Okay, my joints are killing me so testing out the rest of my powers is going to have to wait until I recover. The good news is, my heightened sense of hearing can hear .... a marathon calling...
Fruit?
Its important not to draw inappropriate comparisons, just as it is imporant
to know how to draw appropriate ones. I don't usually draw cartoons
(probably pretty obvious), but I thought it would be a good communication
tool.
The inspiration was someone invoking the "apples and oranges comparing" addage* to discourage comparison in what I will simply call an anaysis of fruit. It got me thinking about the requirements for valid comparison. Often, abstract comparisons are difficult , and more so when there are complicating factors that make direct 1-1 comparison impossible (in pie making one considers more than fruit). Although it may be correct to say that, when looking at a property of two abstract sets, you cannot compare "apples to oranges"--if you have an eye for pragmatism, and find yourself in an orchard with a vitamin deficiency comapring the relative benefit of these apples and those oranges--you might find a way.
Spring
Now that it is springtime, we can all finally get out and enjoy some
fresh air. This spring I will be playing softball on one or two local
teams. This weekend was a great one to do some BP, and I did so with
some of my new co-workers. It is also time for the running program to
kick into gear, and to look for some runs that I can look forward to
competing in.
This May I am also looking forward to heading out to CO for my cousin's high scool graduation. It will be nice to spend some time with family, meeting up with old college friends, and see all that Colorado has to offer. I just bought my plane ticket!
Observations
The chili is good. Playing in the park is fun. The booze is tasty. Brandon's new whip is fly. Duke is lazy. Atalyia is nutz. Audrey is a year older.

Puppy Linux
I am now running puppylinux 2.14, after a struggle to get it installed and the wireless working with my wireless cards. It is exciting moving towards a linux platform, and I expect it to enhance my productivity since I don't think I will be tempted to "play" as much.
There are also many cool tools available. I am using N|vu to edit this page. I will soon make the switch to OpenOffice. At the very least, linux is a cool development environment. Its free, and in its reduced version it can bring my older machines back to life.
Also in the near future, I will be integrating my php sites into a development framework, most likely Drupal, and maybe start playing with Ruby if I can find and set up a test server.
Drink 'em Down!
Its
not every day that you hit the town with your mother and drink some beers.
We stopped by the Hanover grill for a Guinness.
Content Returns
Some content from my old site is back. I added a Book Reviews section to catalog and record my reactions to books I have read. Now available are some of the php classes that make up Kindasimple.com, including random image, email, and guitar tab classes. I will bring back the Daily Picture soon enough!
Update!
Working on a bit of a facelift to appear more Web 2.0
